  • Orienting a Moonstone crystal to show off the phenomena 2010 August 1,
I received this crystal from a customer with the request to facet a checkerboard brilliant oval. I am not a big fan of faceted phenomenal stones as they rarely do justice to the effects. Moonstones are especially suited to low flat cabochons which will display the adularescence optimally. High rounded cabs will have much smaller [...] […]

I made this little machine, about 20mm high excluding the inlet pipe, because I needed to see how a very small motor could work. I made some about 10mm high, but they did not run as well as this one did. The reason I wanted to make a small machine is because  it becomes a [...] […]

Panorama of the East Coast

This Jan. 29 panorama of much of the East Coast, photographed by one of the Expedition 30 crew members aboard the International Space Station, provides a look generally northeastward: Philadelphia-New York City-Boston corridor (bottom-center); western Lake Ontario shoreline with Toronto (left edge); Montreal (near center). An optical illusion in the photo makes the atmospheric limb and light activity from Aurora Borealis appear "intertwined." Image Credit: NASA
